Summer Plans. I work in a school and have a more flexible summer schedule. In an effort to not fall into doing the same things or into a habit of doing nothing we created a summer bucket list. We have used this for the last 4 summers and the kids love picking an activity to do and it keeps me focused on making memories with my kiddos. And if you aren't into the bucket idea, grab a piece of cardboard and let the kids decorate it and create Epic Summer Fun!

I encourage all mamas to do this, even working mamas. You can do easy, short activities on the weekend. Make summer fun for your kiddos and in the process you will have fun too! And don’t tell yourself it’s too expensive - it doesn’t have to be! Many of these ideas are free or a few dollars per person.

Here are some of our ideas:

  • Water Balloons

  • Family Game Night

  • Go on a Trail Walk/Hiking

  • Geocaching Adventure

  • Go to a New Park

  • Fire Pit and S’mores

  • Pick Berries

  • Watch Fireworks

  • Family Olympics

  • Play in the Rain

  • Home Depot Craft (First Saturday of each month)

  • Play at the beach

  • Sidewalk Chalk

  • Family Movie Night

  • Spa Night

  • Go on a picnic

  • Live music (Free outdoor concerts happen all summer long)

  • Museum

  • Play at a splash pad or water fountains

  • Go to a county fair

  • Face Painting

  • Lemonade Stand

  • Farmer’s Market

  • Ice Cream for Breakfast

  • Go to a Movie (Many theaters have summer kid specials!)

What am I missing? The beauty of community is we can share our ideas and everyone can benefit!

And one of the easiest ways to “level up” any of these activities is have them invite a friend. There is something about having a friend along that can make everything more fun and special.
